Funston Lab

The Funston Lab at Stony Brook conducts cutting-edge research on the palaeobiology of vertebrate animals. Our questions centre on life history (the pattern and pace of growth). We reconstruct the way life history has evolved through time, and in turn analyze how it affects the evolution of lineages on long time scales. Our research involves fieldwork, anatomy, palaeohistology (fossilized tissue analysis), geochemistry, and phylogeny (species relationship analysis). We work mostly on mammals and dinosaurs, but we are driven by questions rather than clades, and we appreciate all of the ‘endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful‘, whether living or extinct.

This webpage will grow alongside my lab. It will be the hub for learning about all the new research we’re doing, the tools we’re using, and who’s on the team.
