Laboratory

Update log:

  • 26.08.13: Nearly 1 year since I’ve been in the lab! It’s now fully functional, with all equipment and tools in place, except that I still have not yet moved into a separate office. We now have a Zeiss Microscope for imaging slides, complete photography and thin-sectioning capabilities, and a CT/Synchrotron workstation. Plus, the first shipment of fossils from fieldwork in Alberta!
  • 26.01.20: A while between updates, but with lots of action. Since October, most of my lab equipment has arrived, including my computers, Isomet 1000 saw, vacuum pump, and a microscope (with the other, fancier one on the way). I’m now completely set up to make thin sections! There’s not too much else on my wishlist, but there will likely be some renovations undertaken to accommodate an office space.
The Isomet 1000 saw, the key piece in my lab setup. With the Physics Workshop on Campus, I’ve designed some custom pieces for the saw that will allow me even better capacity for thin-sectioning the tiny little mammal teeth that I’m interested in.

  • 25.10.22: The lab grows more and more functional every day, and critical infrastructure is on its way. The Kitchenette is fully operational, photography and computer equipment is trickling in, and orders are placed for the thin section equipment and microscope!

  • 25.09.23: Placed the first order for lab essentials, which should start to trickle in soon.
  • 25.09.16: Procured some surplus microscopes and other equipment.
  • 25.09.05: Moved into my lab space, already equipped with benchtops, fume hood, and desk space.
